1. Create your account

Creating your Family Evidence account takes just a few minutes:

  1. Sign up: Visit familyevidence.com/sign-up and enter your email
  2. Verify email: Check your inbox for a verification link
  3. Complete profile: Add your name, firm, and bar number (for attorneys)
  4. Choose a plan: Select the plan that fits your practice
  5. Enable 2FA: We recommend enabling two-factor authentication for security

Pro tip: Start with a 14-day free trial of our Firm plan to explore all features before committing.

2. Set up your first case

Cases organize all evidence and participants for a specific matter:

  1. Click "New Case" from your dashboard
  2. Enter case details: Case name, court/jurisdiction, case number (optional)
  3. Set privacy level: Choose who can access this case
  4. Add description: Brief notes about the matter

Each case has its own evidence repository, participant list, and export history--keeping everything organized and secure.

3. Invite your clients

Clients can securely upload evidence directly from their devices:

  1. Open your case and go to "Participants"
  2. Click "Invite Client" and enter their email
  3. Customize permissions: Choose what they can view and upload
  4. Send invitation: They'll receive a secure link to join

Clients receive step-by-step guidance when they join, making it easy for them to start documenting immediately.

Important: Client invitations expire after 7 days. You can resend at any time from the Participants tab.

4. Install the mobile app

The mobile app lets clients capture evidence with automatic authentication:

  • Download: Available on iOS App Store and Google Play
  • Login: Use the same credentials from the invitation
  • Capture: Photos, videos, audio, and screenshots are hashed instantly
  • Offline mode: Works without internet — syncs when connected

5. Upload your first evidence

Ready to start documenting? Here's how:

From the web dashboard:

  1. Open your case
  2. Click "Upload evidence" or drag files directly
  3. Add descriptions and categories
  4. Submit — files are hashed and timestamped automatically

From the mobile app:

  1. Open your case in the app
  2. Tap the camera icon for photos/videos
  3. Or tap "Upload" to add existing files
  4. Add a description and submit

Every upload receives a SHA-256 hash and NTP-verified timestamp — your evidence is now court-ready.
